Who Is Ralph Gracie ?

Ralph Gracie, a member of the renowned Gracie family, has made significant contributions to martial arts, particularly Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ).

Born into a family that revolutionized martial arts, Ralph Gracie was destined to leave his mark. He was
trained by his uncles Carlos and Helio Gracie, the patriarchs of the Gracie family who were instrumental in the
creation and popularization of Vale Tudo and mixed martial arts (MMA).Ralph Gracie embraced the family’s
unique fighting style, a blend of Jiu-Jitsu with elements of Judo, wrestling, and boxing.

This style, known as “Gracie Jiu-Jitsu,” emphasized leverage, superior positioning, and ground fighting
techniques, allowing a smaller or weaker person to defend against a larger or stronger opponent. Ralph
Gracie’s influence in martial arts extends beyond his own accomplishments as a fighter.

He has been a dedicated teacher, sharing the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu techniques with students in his academies in
California. His commitment to teaching has helped to spread the Gracie style of Jiu-Jitsu across the United
States and beyond.

Yes, you may wear your own Gi as a visitor.

Each class consists of a 15 min warm-up, 45 min instruction and then 30+ minutes rolling.

Yes you can. Although, it is important for our students to learn the fundamentals of Jiu-Jitsu wearing the Gi. The Gi allows students to learn the concepts of control at a slower, yet much more effective pace.

You are not obligated to wear a rash guard under your Gi but it’s highly recommended. We have rash guards for sale at the academy.

New students are welcomed to attend a fundamentals class that is designed to introduce you to Jiu-Jitsu and take you through your first few steps on the mats. Classes follow a simple structure of a calisthenics like warm-up, a technical part of the class where the instructor is introducing technique/concepts, and students practicing the technique. We have individual training buddies available for kids and adults.

This varies depending upon students’ other commitments. An average would be around 10-12.

Amazing! We are looking forward to having you at the academy. We ask you to come dressed and ready in workout clothes, bring a bottle of water and be on time.

No, you do not, but it is encouraged! The belts signify differing levels of expertise and experience. Everyone starts out a white belt, and through training and dedication progresses through Blue, Purple, Brown and Black. Sparring helps you gain the experience to get promoted to the next rank.

We offer private lessons. Please call our academy if you’re interested in booking a private lesson with any of our instructors.

You can train as often as you want. The more often you train, the quicker you will progress

You can take a free trial class without purchasing a Gi, but if you commit to BJJ you will need to eventually make a purchase.
